This Coalgan compress is designed to stop bleeding and promote healing. The fibres consist of calcium alginate, a plant-based material from brown seaweed. As soon as the compress comes into contact with blood, it releases calcium ions. These speed up clotting, which shortens the bleeding time.
Its haemostatic and healing action makes the compress suitable for mouth bleeds, nosebleeds and bleeding from superficial areas with a rich blood supply, such as the eyebrows. It can also be used on superficial, suppurating burns. Because it supports wound healing, it also reduces the risk of infection.
The compresses are individually wrapped in sachets, so you open one at a time and the rest stay sterile. This means you can take them along in a first aid kit at home, in the car or when out and about. The packaging and instructions for use are in French.
