The MX-6 is a thermal paste from Arctic Cooling. You use it to optimise heat transfer between components: the paste goes on the contact surface between the part and the cooler that needs to dissipate the heat.

According to the manufacturer, the paste has very low thermal resistance, because the layer between cooler and component can stay extremely thin. Applying it is easy, according to Arctic Cooling, even if you're doing this for the first time.
